Shah Kawasaki Architects

Shah Kawasaki ArchitectsFounded in 1999, Shah Kawasaki Architects (SKA) is a public sector architectural firm providing quality design services for municipal, state, and higher education clients. Located in Oakland’s Jack London Square, our 12-person practice includes four principals and eight staff members. The firm’s structure enables hands-on involvement of the principals, close working relationships with staff, and creative design solutions. As a public sector firm, Shah Kawasaki Architects proactively works with project managers and multifaceted stakeholders and is responsible for meeting strict schedules and budgets.

Shah Kawasaki Architects provides design service for the full range of building types utilized by our public sector clients including healthcare facilities, public safety projects, community centers, libraries, administrative offices, and museums. As one of Alameda County’s on-call Architects, SKA has had the privilege of providing tenant improvement services to several of the County’s offices, a master plan for the Sheriff’s Regional Training Center and design for the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Office Building. Most notably, we recently completed design-build services for their new Sobering Station/Detoxification Facility, a significant addition to the County’s Fairmont Healthcare Campus.

Our team is committed to sustainable design on all of our projects regardless of legislative mandate. We have been able to successfully steer this path to sustainable design and deliver LEED and self-certified design projects because of two reasons: our commitment to understanding the technologies behind sustainable materials and systems and our ability to navigate a project through the often conflicting environmental goals and fiduciary tensions of publicly funded projects. SKA’s substantial commitment to sustainability in these areas is not only in the way we design projects, but also in the way we manage our office and actively educate our employees. Our office standards, including all boilerplate specifications, incorporate sustainable goals and make the process seamless within our office.
